Faces

Portraits of some friends from my (middle and high) school I have known since 1992. Back then none of us could have imagined that we would be leaving Nepal to live in (north) mid-western United States at some point in our lives. Life is quite an unpredictable journey.

the moment

Taking candid shots of strangers can be a bit akward. But when the right moment comes, its hard to refrain from pointing the camera and pressing the shutter button...

Infra Red Photography

I finally got my R70 Infrared filter. I like the eerie photographs that result when visible light is filtered out and photographs are made using only the infrared end of the spectrum.

Stacking 3 Polarizers

I biked to Millenium Park this afternoon. The place was very crowded. While was taking some photographs I tried stacking two circular polarizers and one linear polarizer in order to cut light so I could take photographs at very slow shutter speed (and blur out the people). I was surprised to see that this combination of polarizers acts almost like an Infra Red filter. The shutter speed had to be slowed down to 30 seconds. I bought a Hoya 72 IR filter earlier today for real Infra Red photography. Until then I will experiment with this polarizer combo.
Infra Red photography is not for everyone. It involves a fair bit of Photoshop editing to balance the colors.

Phantom Knight

I was in Indiana again last night and took this panning shot inside a barn house. Light reflected off of dust particles provided luminosity to the air. The white color and movement of the horse gave it a translucent feel. Panning shots are useful to capture moving subjects and they give the photograph an artistic touch.

On a Tuesday evening, I went to a fish shop up north with one my friends Laura, to buy a pet for lab. While she bought the fish I took a few snapshots.

All aspiring photographers seem to have a few photographs of cute animals in their portfolio. Thought I might as well take some myself or face ex-communication from the community.

the snowstorm

It was very cold and some of my friends wanted to go to Promontary Point to have a snowball fight. With my leaky boots filled with snow, and my toes numb, I had to bail out soon after taking these photographs.
